Our Story

Innovate STEM Consulting was founded by Dr. Kayla Maxey, an engineer, researcher, and education leader committed to connecting learning with opportunity. With experience across industry, academia, and workforce development, Dr. Maxey recognized the need to align education with the realities of a changing economy.

She created Innovate STEM to help institutions and organizations design programs that prepare students for meaningful and future-focused careers. Through collaboration with educators, employers, and communities, the firm develops strategies that make learning relevant, practical, and transformative.

At its core, Innovate STEM believes that when education, industry, and community come together, students gain the skills, confidence, and opportunity to shape the future.

Our Approach

Innovate STEM uses a three-phase approach—Assessment, Design, and Execution—to strengthen STEM education and equip both students and educators for success.

Assessment

We begin with a thorough assessment of each partner’s context, evaluating programs and outcomes to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities. By engaging educators and learners, we uncover ways to improve alignment, access, and impact.

Design

We co-design tailored strategies that align with institutional goals and community priorities. Each solution blends effective teaching practices, new technologies, and hands-on learning to connect education with real-world impact.

Execution

We collaborate with stakeholders to implement each strategy with purpose and precision. Our team supports educators through professional learning, provides essential resources, and monitors progress to ensure lasting results and meaningful impact.

Together, these phases create a cohesive and sustainable model that advances STEM/CTE education while fostering a culture of innovation and institutional excellence.
